It is confirmed: The Hummingbird Center is welcoming Naturist New Hampshire members and guests to a clothing-optional visit to its organic farm and hiking trails on Sunday, May 12.
NNH will have access to a second-floor space where we will be free to be naked between noon and 4 p.m. (or later). There is a yoga studio and library and, for anyone wanting to stay overnight, sleeping quarters. (We are not booked overnight for this event, so anyone wanting lodging will have to make special arrangements.)
The Hummingbird Center, located in Dorchester NH and formerly operating as D-Acres) also has a farm store and a dining area offering meals to the public, so clothing is required in those areas. There also are outdoor areas where nudity will not be allowed. A section of the property is visible from a home next door, so it will be necessary to be dressed in those areas. That includes the large fire pit near the trailhead — but, should we schedule an overnight stay in the future, we’ll be able to sit naked around the fire in the late evening.
The good news is that nudity is allowed in the outdoor wood-fired hot tub, and there are miles of wooded trails that, once across a small bridge, are open to naked hiking. There are two ponds along the trails for anyone wanting to take a plunge.
In the interest of keeping our naturist events affordable to everyone, we are able to offer a general admission fee of $40 for singles and $75 for couples, which covers the afternoon’s activities. For those wishing to add an optional meal to the visit, the total price is $75 per person and $140 per couple. There are discounted prices for members of Naturist New Hampshire and for those affiliated with other naturist organizations.
For our May 12 event, the Hummingbird Center is preparing a special buffet dinner comprising spaghetti with a choice of sauces (bolognese [meat sauce], mushroom marinara, and alfredo), garlic sourdough focaccia, spring salad, Mediterranean chickpea salad, grilled vegetable medley, and assorted cookies and whipped cream.
Reservations are due by Wednesday, May 8, in order to give the kitchen a head count for the meal. Tickets are available HERE.
The Hummingbird Center operates as an organic farm open to the public, and its Nourish restaurant features a rotating seasonal menu featuring fruit, herbs, and wild greens grown onsite.
While the Hummingbird Center is not a naturist operation, the staff is tolerant of — and occasionally participates in — naked activities. NNH sees this as an opportunity to support a like-minded operation that focuses on healthy food and healthy living. The Hummingbird Center offers educational workshops and restorative activities such as yoga and sound baths — something NNH may want to include in future events.
In addition to the private and shared indoor lodging, the center allows meadow camping with views of Mount Mooselauke and Carr Mountain. It also has some tent platforms. There are private sites that can accommodate cars and mid-sized RVs. (Note that there are no hookups.) The kitchen and shower use are available to campers for a small fee.
In addition to the hiking opportunities, the center offers mountain biking, snowshoeing, and cross-country skiing on trails it maintains with a drag groomer. Some of the mountain biking trails are machine-built, while other sections are over natural terrain.
For anyone with a desire to become part of the Hummingbird Center, there are volunteer positions available. Visit their website at thehummingbirdcenter.com for more information.
