Improving Weather
Snow Showers No Longer A Concern
We were prepared to issue a warning today about a forecast of snow showers on Sunday, the day of Naturist New Hampshire’s Butterscotch Pool Party in Berwick ME, but the latest update is predicting a sunny day with a high of 42°.
A decision to cancel an event is always unwelcome, so before doing so, we try to make sure there is a very good reason for it. A prediction of “snow likely” or “snow showers” does not trigger a cancellation because a little snowfall is not likely to prevent travel, although it does merit a warning to those who might be concerned. Similarly, when rain is predicted for an outdoor activity, it could turn out to be a passing shower that does not affect the plans. On the other hand, if two inches of rain or six inches of snow is in the forecast, we’d rather have people remain safe at home.
NNH used to cancel events when reservations fell far short of the number needed to cover expenses. That turned out to be bad for membership and for future participation because it introduced skepticism about whether the event would actually happen, keeping people from signing up in the first place. The club instead worked to offer a selection of more affordable events and encouraged donations to cover expenses when the income falls short of breaking even.
The Berwick pool offers the most affordable winter activity in recent years. With a pool heated to 85° and radiant heat in the room, it offers a welcoming space on a cold winter’s day, albeit without (for the time being) other amenities such as a hot tub or sauna.
We still will hold some more elaborate activities, such as our Unwearin’ o’ the Green Party that has lounge areas, table tennis, pool, sauna, and hot tub, with a family-style dinner rounding out the day. It also provides an alternative location that may be closer for some members to reach.
Membership
Naturist New Hampshire welcomes everyone with supportive, respective, and non-judgmental attitudes, whether they are members or not, but membership does have its advantages. Members receive a $10 discount on event fees which can quickly cover the cost of dues, and memberships cover everyone in the household. (Those who are not members, but are affiliated with other naturist organizations, receive a $5 discount from posted event fees.)
In keeping with New Hampshire’s Live Free or Die motto, we offer a range of membership options, as well as separate opportunities to join AANR and TNSF through our club:
Basic Membership, at $30 per household, includes a free subscription to Living Free: Naturism & Our World, which includes the NNH newsletter and previews of the articles being prepared for the quarterly e-zine.
