Naturist New Hampshire’s “Station Party” at the Merrimack Valley Railroad Function Hall in Northfield attracted 17 people who visited, played cards, and enjoyed a platter of gourmet sandwiches while listening to a playlist of railroad songs in keeping with the atmosphere, enhanced by the presence of an assortment of rail cars outside the freight house. The event brought to mind the song written by Guy Clark and originally recorded by Jerry Jeff Walker for his 1973 album, “Viva Terlingua”, titled “Desperadoes Waiting For A Train”. The consensus of those attending was that, while the venue lacked a swimming pool, hot tub, or sauna, it nevertheless was great to have a place to meet, and the historic structure provided an interesting backdrop for the clothing-optional get-together.
With all that in mind, NNH has booked a return visit, “Desperadoes at the Station”, for Sunday, April 13, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. This time, there will be an extended menu of gourmet and finger sandwiches, along with a “grazing box” of cheeses, meats, nuts, olives, and crackers, as well as an assortment of non-alcoholic drinks. Attendees are encouraged to bring cards, board games, musical instruments, or other entertainment. There is a projector and screen in case someone has something to share from a laptop, and a wifi speaker for streaming music.
The hope is that we’ll be able to retain this location for future events and, with a sufficient number of attendees, will be able to cover the cost of bringing in musical entertainment. One naturist friend already has indicated that he would be happy to sing from his own extensive musical itinerary once he returns from Florida.
The price to attend is $55 for members, $60 for those with other naturist affiliations, and $65 for non-members, with slight discounts for couples. We fell a bit short of breaking even this time, so those prices hold for the next event, but if we’re able to increase the number of attendees, we’ll be able to bring that price down in the future.
Meanwhile, we’ll be visiting another venue for the first time on Sunday, February 16, when the Gargoyle House in Wells River VT opens its entire facility, including sauna and hot tub, to NNH members and guests from noon to 6 p.m. or later. The price for that visit is even lower: $30 for members, $35 for affiliates, and $40 for non-members, with discounts for couples.
Then, in March, we’ll hold our annual Unwearin’ o’ the Green St. Patrick’s party at the Inn at East Hill Farm in Troy, with corned beef and baked haddock on the menu. Reservations for the 2 - 6 p.m. social and family-style meal that follows are $75 for members, $80 for affiliates, and $85 for non-members, with discounts for couples.
