Update: Shortly after making this post, I got word that Baker Rocks Campground will not be able to accommodate NNH after all. They tried very hard, but “in this town, it’s already become an hot topic and I simply just have to make the right decision for my business/community,” the owner wrote.
Time to press on in the effort to find other venues.
Just one month from today, Naturist New Hampshire will hold a four-hour clothing-optional gathering, “Rumney Rocks” — an introductory visit to Baker Rocks Campground in Rumney which we are hoping will become a regular venue for our non-landed travel club to meet during the year. The campground has extensive frontage (3,000 feet) along the Baker River, although nudity will not be allowed on a section that lies across from a daycare facility. The campground is near Rumney Rocks, a popular rock-climbing area, and offers a private hiking trail, as well as “glamping” accommodations, campsites, a nature-based playground, CrossFit and yoga space, a store, and a farm stand. A wood-fired outdoor sauna is planned for the site.
We have confirmation for our visit on Sunday, May 19, and are working on a private weekend event that would provide NNH with full access to the entire campground. I had hoped to have complete details to share by now, but the owner has had to contact campers who had already reserved space for the coming year to see if they would be willing to switch to another date. She was unable to clear a weekend in June, as we had hoped, but she has penciled us in for Saturday - Monday, September 21-23. Those dates mean overnights on Saturday and Sunday, which raises concerns about people who have to be at work on Monday — will we be able to sell enough tickets to cover the weekend rental fee? (We are still in discussions on what that fee would be.)
Our May visit will run from noon to 4 p.m., giving us a chance to tour the campground and check out the amenities. People are encouraged to bring food to share during the afternoon as we talk about our impressions and discuss future visits.
Now that I know we won’t be going there in June, I’ll be looking at other possibilities for that month. The rest of the summer will involve visits to beaches, retreats, and festivals, until we reach September and look toward indoor events.
